Overview
In November 2025, Caring Heart and Refuge for Many (CHARM) will take its Community Feeding Program to Makoko Primary School, Lagos. This outreach is part of our ongoing mission to fight hunger, promote good health, and restore dignity among vulnerable children in underserved communities.
The Makoko School Feeding & Hygiene Education Project will provide free, nutritious lunches and personal hygiene education to hundreds of pupils who face daily challenges of food insecurity and limited access to clean water.
Why Makoko?
Makoko is one of Lagos’ most marginalized communities, where many families struggle to provide consistent meals or maintain proper hygiene due to poverty and poor access to basic amenities.
By reaching these children directly in their school environment, CHARM aims to not only fill empty stomachs but also equip them with knowledge that can protect their health for life.
Our Goals
- Feed: Serve balanced, freshly prepared meals to all pupils at Makoko Primary School.
- Educate: Teach practical hygiene habits — including handwashing, clean water use, and disease prevention.
- Empower: Promote self-care, confidence, and well-being among children through interactive learning and engagement.
- Inspire: Build awareness within the community on the link between nutrition, hygiene, and long-term development.
Expected Impact
- 100 children will receive nutritious meals.
- Improved awareness of hygiene and sanitation practices.
- Reduction in preventable illnesses linked to poor hygiene.
- Strengthened partnerships between CHARM, schools, and local communities.
This project contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2 – Zero Hunger) and (SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation).
